Following the success of our previous campaign for river gauge data in 2021, the EFAS Centres call for river discharge data from EFAS Partners again!

EFAS Forecast Computational Centre (COMP) will consider all stations used for the calibration of EFAS v5 but will also assess if more stations in the EFAS Hydrological Data Collection Centre (HYDRO) database could be used for the next calibration of EFAS. The selection process is starting soon and there is the opportunity for EFAS partners to contribute new discharge data and take part in the selection of calibration stations for the next EFAS major release!

Here is how you can take part:

In the next few weeks, HYDRO will contact you with a list of stations with the data periods we already have available in the Hydro Database. We would be very grateful if you could review the list and let us know if there are a) any additional stations with discharge data you would like to share with us, or b) any discharge data periods you would like us to upload to existing stations in the list.

In the interest of time, we ask you to prioritise:

  • Discharge stations with an upstream drainage area larger than 150 km2

  • Discharge stations with a minimum 4 years of discharge observations (also in non-consecutive periods)

Increasing the calibration domain (i.e. with more stations and longer time series) is a great way to improve the quality of the EFAS system, and we are very much looking forward to working with you to achieve this. However, as mapping and additional quality check procedures are long, we can only accept new candidate stations for the next calibration of EFAS until the 30 May 2024, so that we have time to inspect the data before the calibration starts. Any data received after that date will of course be included in the HYDRO database and considered for future EFAS upgrades such as reporting point upgrades or another cycle of calibration.

Don't forget to submit your feedback on calibration stations until 30/05/2024!
