EFAS Videos
  • An Introduction to EFAS and the web Interface (1)

This session focus on EFAS-IS and its layout, how to interpret different layers and products in order to understand the hydrological situation.

  • An Introduction to EFAS and the web Interface (2)

This session explains the concept and main contents of EFAS such as the partner network, EFAS centers, forecasts and notifications. Its main purpose is to introduce EFAS to a new audience.

  • Video tutorial on how to use the EFAS Information System

This video illustrates briefly the main features of the EFAS web interface. It briefly describes the different tabs on EFAS-IS, provides a detailed overview of the different layers under EFAS forecasting, highlights the most important layers for flood forecasters and describes the features of EFAS-IS such as how to zoom, select layers and save the set-up, possibility to step through the forecasts with the arrow or to get additional info on the help icon

  • European Flood Awareness System produced by Norrkoeping Visualization Center

The European Flood Awareness System produced by Norrkoeping Visualization Center and directed by Cristina Alionte Eklund and Niklas Hjerd. Short introductory video explaining the structure of EFAS and the main objectives using floods in Eastern Europe in May 2010

  • Video tutorial for Emergency Managers and non-expert users

This video illustrates the basic concepts of EFAS and what information is provided by EFAS. It furthermore highlights the layers most useful to get an overview on the latest forecast and what additional layers might be useful to understand the hydrological situation.

  • How to use EFAS Formal/Informal Flood Notifications and EFAS Flash Flood Notifications

This video describes how EFAS warnings are sent out and how to react on them. It explains which different types of flood warnings exist in EFAS , what are the criteria to send out EFAS warnings, who receives EFAS warnings, what information do the warnings contain, and what should be done after receiving an EFAS warning

  • Use of H-SAF in a HEPEX system (EFAS)

Use of H-SAF in a HEPEX system (EFAS) presented 5 November 2014 at the H-SAF and HEPEX workshops on coupled hydrology by Peter Salamon. The presentation gives an overview how real-time remote sensing data is used in EFAS and gives an overview of the related challenges and potential future developments related to this issue in EFAS.

  • The European Flood Awareness System - increasing preparedness for riverine floods across Europe

The European Flood Awareness System - increasing preparedness for riverine floods across Europe presented 3 December 2014 at the EUMETRain event week for Droughts, Floods and Landslides by Peter Salamon. This presentation provides an overview of the following basic principles employed in EFAS:

    (1) the use of ensemble predictions in flood forecasting
    (2) employing model climatology to derive return period statistics
    (3) communication and visualization of uncertain results for decision making
Furthermore, the flash flood predictions as computed in EFAS are presented.
